Applied Public Health student Elizabeth Pare tells us about her experience

MSc Applied Public Health

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship

“In school, it was my dream to study at masters level. To travel the world and see new places, experience new cultures, was part of this. The only way this dream could become a reality was through a scholarship.

My lecturer at the University of Education in Ghana has been awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship and this was the first I had heard of such a possibility. I began to research on websites to see what was available and I also saw a newspaper advert from the CSC. The shared scholarship from the CSC seemed most appealing and I felt I had a good chance to apply.

I always wanted to study Public Health so I focussed on the institutions with this programme. UCLan stood out to me because of the module content and structure of the course. After I completed the application, I waited eagerly for the outcome. I finally received the overwhelming news in July that I had been successful and began to make plans to come to UCLan.

I had guidance from UCLan by email and telephone which really helped along the way.

UCLan has been so perfect! The organisation in the school, the library and high levels of support. My tutor had guided me so well and has an open-door policy so that I can ask questions at any time. I have also been offered a personal orientation as I was slightly later joining the course.

I am in Ribble Halls and have been made very welcome. Everything is on hand and I am close to campus.

I am extremely thankful for the experience here at UCLan and look forward to all the future has to offer.”
