Indian student Ratnakar talks about his time studying MBA
A former bank employee, Ratnakar wanted to progress in his career and decided to study for an MBA.
"I choose the UK over my home country and other foreign countries because of the standards of teaching in UK are well renowned. The decision to opt for UCLan was primarily based on few factors such as the attraction of the city, fees, the teaching faculty and placement opportunity. I choose to study MBA with professional placement as I wanted to experience UK work culture.
My classes were always on time as scheduled except for rare scenarios where a lecturer had uncertain circumstances. Most of my lecturers were really good and I enjoyed the method of learning which is very unlike India; we had essays assignments and we learnt through applying our understanding of current affairs such as BREXIT.
I spent lot of time in the library self-studying to better understand these concepts and practical knowledge. I enjoyed the course and I even got placed as an intern during my course with Copeland Borough Council based in the Lake District. I worked as a tourism development officer with the economic development team for about 11 months on a contract and I enjoyed it. I got to learn a lot from that experience and I also took the opportunity to contribute my knowledge to the projects."
"In addition, I had the opportunity to work as polling booth officer during elections. The <i> service here is so helpful, you can ask for any information and they will help you. In addition, the Students’ Union (SU) is next to the Library and can also help with all sorts of issues.
What’s more, those who initially find it difficult to understand teaching can go for free English classes for non-native speaking students and WISER for assignment help. Preston, although a small city, is equipped with all sorts of facilities like shopping centres, a railway station, grocery stores and restaurants, all within walkable proximity.
I also had a part-time work during my course time to help pay for accommodation, food and other bits. I love going to the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre where you have a top-class gym and arena for all sorts of sports to keep you fit. The best service for me is the night-time library shuttle service for students studying until late."
