Jamie lands managerial role at iSPORT store

Having had a major passion for sport from a young age, competing and participating in most sports at High School, Jamie Foyster was motivated to pursue his sporting interest, all the way to University. After studying BSc Sports Business Management at UCLan, Jamie is now Manager of iSPORTstore, involving the running of commercial events, professional players, consultancy, marketing and brand management.

During his sandwich year, Jamie started a work placement, which didn’t meet his expectations. He left, and moved to a local squash club, where the focus was on marketing and events.

Jamie said: “When I returned for my final year, I felt like I hadn’t gained enough experience from my sandwich year, so I managed to gain a voluntary place with England Squash working in the participation team. Because of this connection, I managed to gain my position with internationalSPORTgroup who work closely with England Squash on events and commercial business.”

Since working at internationalSPORTgroup, Jamie and his team have successfully run the National Squash Championships in both 2017 & 2018.

In addition, they played host to the World Squash Championships, staged in Manchester, one of the most prestigious tournaments in squash, welcoming the best players around the world to compete.

Citing the “incredible” facilities at UCLan, having access to a 24/7 library with online journals was very beneficial to Jamie, amongst many other skills and experiences gained that enabled a career in sport.

He said: “My lasting memories of UCLan is the major support and value that I have received from completing my degree here. The links and connections they provided, with external sport business and clubs provided me with opportunities that I don’t think would have been available at other universities. I also made some great friends at University that I still keep in touch with on a regular basis.”

“I would recommend anyone that takes on further education, whether it is university, college or any other form of education, is to make the most of the opportunities that are available to you. Having the degree or equivalent is the bare minimum that employers look for and it is the experiences you have gained and made that could make the difference between you getting a job.

“I think University matured me as a person and prepared me for the working life. The knowledge I have gained in specific modules such as Finance and Funding played a major part in the role that I currently work in. Also, marketing and brand management are starting to play a key role in a new position that should become available to me in the next year.”
