Robin's nursing career began in the 1980s at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. On qualifying, he worked in various London teaching hospitals including the Royal Free and St. Mary’s.
The specialities Robin has worked in have all been surgical in nature, though he finally specialised in vascular surgery. He went on to become a nurse practitioner, before joining the teaching staff at Thames Valley University.
Robin joined the team at UCLan in 2003, working initially in Foundation Studies, before taking leadership of the Practice Learning Division in 2004. This division has recently metamorphosed into the Emergency and Unscheduled Care Division, which is primarily concerned with the education of health care professionals who work in these fields, whether they are nurses or paramedics.
He is also responsible for the management of the Faculty multi-professional skills laboratories, where we teach students of many disciplines some of the clinical skills necessary to fulfil their roles, in a safe, simulated environment, often using some extremely sophisticated computerised mannequins.
