Professor Gershan Davis

Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Honorary Consultant Cardiologist

Gershan Davis is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Consultant Cardiologist at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust. He is academic lead for the UCLan West Lakes phase 2 MBBS programme and previously Course Lead for the Hospitalist Medicine MSc programme. His background is in Clinical Cardiology and Medical Education with a career spanning 30 years in clinical medical practice as well as in undergraduate medical education at University of Liverpool and postgraduate Cardiology training with Mersey Deanery. His research interests include imaging of the coronary arteries, effect of obesity on heart rhythm disturbances and clinical education.

I am Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at School of Medicine, University of Central Lancashire and a Clinical Academic. I also work on secondment as a Consultant Cardiologist at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust. I am the academic lead for the UCLan West Lakes phase 2 clinical MBBS programme and currently teach as a Campus day Educator as well as provide educational and clinical supervision for students on their Cardiology placement during their Medicine module. I also serve as a Portfolio tutor for Phase1 year 2 students. I am actively involved in research through collaborative activities of an Academic Cardiovascular Group and by collaboration with colleagues in local NHS Trusts. I provide student opportunities in Cardiovascular Medicine in the Medical Sciences MRes programme

Gershan’s background is in Clinical Cardiology and Medical Education. After graduating from the University of the West Indies, Gershan did postgraduate training in London and Manchester obtaining his research MD from University of Manchester. He did a travelling research fellowship at Harvard University and subspeciality interventional cardiology training in Auckland, New Zealand and Boston, USA. Gershan spent 15 years as Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation laboratory at Aintree University Hospital and cofounded the Cardiac CT service and was Lead Cardiologist for Cardiac CT. Prior to arriving at UCLan, Gershan was Aintree University Hospitals undergraduate Year 3 Lead for University of Liverpool medical students and a member of the assessment group, University of Liverpool. He has a track record in Cardiovascular Research with numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and an international reputation in Cardiac CT. He has chaired and moderated sessions at international academic meetings and supervised students post graduate degrees. Based at UCLan’s Westlakes Campus, Gershan is involved in a range of postgraduate programmes and in providing academic leadership at the West Cumberland Education Centre.
