Pauline has many years’ experience of teaching, curriculum development, quality assurance and enhancement of student experience in academic education. Alongside her academic background, Pauline is a registered social working, having over 20 years experience of social work and management. She has a strong professional and academic interest in social work law, safeguarding, equality and diversity. Pauline is the safeguarding lead for her school at the University of Central Lancashire.
In addition to her role in teaching and her experience in social work, Pauline's research interests has gained international recognition. Pauline's doctorate has centred on the narratives of service users in their experience of physical restraint. This has led to her presentation of this study at several international conferences: Dublin, 2017; Italy, 2019; and Norway, 2019.
Her most recent publication, 'An integrative review exploring the physical and psychological harm inherent in using restraint in mental health inpatient settings' was awarded one of the most cited and downloaded (2018-19) in the International Journal of Mental Nursing. Her previous publication in 2016 'Restraining good practice: reviewing evidence of the effects of restraint from the perspective of service users and mental health professionals in the United Kingdom ' was published in the International Journal of Law and Psychiatry, leading to presentation of this work at two international conferences: Venice 2015; and Dublin 2016.
