Malcolm is the Director of Postgraduate Dental studies, an Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, and also Director of the UCLan Dental Clinic. He has lectured extensively throughout the UK and South East Asia on a wide range of restorative topics and been a regular speaker at Conferences in the UK and further afield.

Having qualified from the School of Dentistry at the University of Wales in 1981, winning the Dental School Alumni prize and having been President of the Student Society, Malcolm went on to complete his masters degree and pass the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal college of Surgeons in England. He passed the Diploma in Restorative Dentistry on the last occasion that it was held, and was one of the first cohort to be awarded the Membership in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. After seven years working in Saudi Arabia, Malcolm returned to the UK and worked part-time in specialist referral practice, and part-time at the Dental School in Birmingham. In 2009 he joined UCLan, initially as the Course Lead in Restorative Dentistry, and later as the Academic Lead before being appointed as the Director of Postgraduate Dental studies. As such, he is responsible for the portfolio of postgraduate courses offered by the Dental school and delivered in the UK and overseas.
