Louise Janvier
Louise Janvier, BA MA PGCE, is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the BSc (Hons) Architecture Foundation Year course at GBIA, UCLan with 20 years’ teaching experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels of Architecture. Louise has also been teaching internationally for the past 9 years in Year 2 design studio and building technology at VTC, Hong Kong.
Louise has worked collaboratively with major architects, councils, Natural England, Sport England, and UK law courts to produce research papers and artwork that examines the development of urban environments and public space. Her site and place artist work has been exhibited in the UK and overseas and she has presented work at major galleries including Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, the University of Bologna, ARUP, London, AMPS conference, New York, and the Guardian. Louise has exhibited work using a wide variety of media including sculpture, painting, print, photography, and film. Her work has been selected for film festivals and international biennials in Liverpool, Iceland, and Berlin. Louise has led a collaborative research study visit with students to Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong exploring the materiality of the cities and the use of public spaces. Study visits to Rome, Lisbon, Brussels, Athens and the Venice Biennale have also provided an excellent global resource supporting staff and student city research projects.
Louise has been a Guest Critic in Architecture for undergraduate and postgraduate courses at many UK universities and initiated the successful BSc (Hons) Architecture Foundation Year course 10 years ago with the aim of providing a solid grounding in the subject for individuals from a diverse background and with a focus on sustainability and climate change. She has also taught Art & Design, Graphic Design, Fine Art and Photography for several years in FE.
