Kirsty Heimerl-Moggan is a Senior Lecturer in Conference Interpreting and Course Leader for the MA in Interpreting and Translation. She is a practising international conference, business and legal interpreter and is often consulted as an expert in the field of interpreting. Kirsty is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists as well as a Chartered Interpreter.

Kirsty joined the University of Central Lancashire early in 2009 when she was asked to establish the MA in Interpreting & Translation. Her teaching experience at that point had involved teaching conference interpreting at post-graduate level at a number of prestigious universities in the UK and Germany. Kirsty has been the course leader for this course since its first cohort of students arrived in the August of 2009. She combines her role as Senior Lecturer in Conference Interpreting with her work as a practising interpreter and her links to industry and business give the course a truly tangible employability advantage for her students. As an interpreting practitioner Kirsty has published widely (books, journal articles, book chapters and training manuals) and has been involved in course development for a wide range of universities and training providers. Her publications include Note-taking for Public Service Interpreters, Language Aids in Public Services, as well as the DPSI Trainer Handbook and the CBS Trainer Handbook for the Chartered Institute of Linguists. Kirsty is on the university’s media expert directory and in this role has been asked to appear on television and other media on several occasions.

Kirsty has worked as an international conference interpreter in German, Austrian and Swiss German since 1994 and prides herself on being an interpreter practitioner. She has worked based either in Munich, Germany or Manchester, UK at varying times of her career, and in addition her role as an interpreting practitioner has taken her all over the world. Having interpreted for Heads of State and Government as a conference interpreter, Kirsty also very much enjoys interpreting at international business meetings and interpreting at the High Court for international financial disputes as much as in criminal and civil cases involving police, the Crown Prosecution Service and H.M. Court Services. This work builds links with the industry and opens up opportunities for the students Kirsty teaches on the MA Interpreting & Translation as well as ensuring that the course prepares students for immediate employability in the world of conference interpreting. Over the years, Kirsty has held a number of conference interpreting lecturer positions both on conference interpreting MAs and European Masters in Interpreting at the University of Salford, University of Leeds, and in Germany at the Munich University of Applied Languages. As a visiting Scholar, she has given specialist interpreting lectures at Leeds University, University of Bath, University of East Anglia, Salford University, STIL, University of Poznan, Poland and Sprachen- und Dolmetscherinstitut, Munich, Germany amongst others.
