Caroline joined the University of Central Lancashire as a part-time lecturer at the end of 2019 and teaches across all modules on the new BSc Ophthalmic Dispensing and MSc Optometry courses. She is module leader for 2001. She is looking forward to undertaking more research in the future once the courses are established. Caroline also works part-time in an independent optometric practice in Skipton and has been a registered Optometrist since 2005.
Caroline began her career in optics by training as a Dispensing Optician, she then went on to train as an Optometrists registering with the general Optical Council in 2005. After completing a summer research scholarship whilst at University and following up with the research in her undergraduate dissertation project, this kindled an interest in research and later teaching. Caroline went on to be a Clinical Demonstrator and to complete a PhD at the University of Bradford. During this time she presented her work at the British Congress of Optometry and Vision Science (BCOVS), presented posters at the annual Optometry Tomorrow Conference and was invited to speak at the British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) on two occasions. Caroline has also been involved in giving talks to parents, teachers and specialist needs advisors to provide education on how vision problems may affect reading and what signs to look for in children. She wrote a continuation education article on vision and reading in the Optometry Tomorrow publication in 2019 aimed at Optometrists.
