Third Year Sports Coaching StudentI chose to study at UCLan following a visit to an open day where I was very impressed with the facilities and staff. The strong links with universities all over the world really appealed to me as I wanted to study abroad.
I found the work and fitting in with the first year of university was a big step from A-Level, but with the help of the staff, I was able to adapt. I liked the mix of theoretical work and practical work in the programme. I have gained many personal skills whilst studying including better knowledge on how to coach a sports session and I have also become interested in reading academic literature around my degree. The teaching sessions are well planned and executed, I like how we talk about subjects with everyone, then split into different groups to discuss it further and give views and ideas.
I took part in a study abroad programme, studying my second year at Fresno State University in California. Adapting to life in America whilst studying was by far my greatest achievement at university. My lasting memory would involve the different people I have met whilst in America from all over the world and getting an insight into their lives.
You should study this course if you have an interest in coaching or teaching as it will provide sound fundamental knowledge needed for your future career. My advice to prospective students would be talk to the staff as much as you can so you know what is needed for an assignment, they are extremely helpful so use them to your benefit.
