Zachary Minev

Second Year BA (Hons) Graphic Design Student

UCLan BA (Hons) Graphic Design student, Zachary Minev, who is currently in his second year, received the exciting news of being shortlisted in a student competition set by Coley Porter Bell. The top branding agency set a brief to enhance the Kopparberg experience during summer, prompting Zachary to create a limited edition Kopparberg for Wimbledon 2018.

After submitting his concept, Zachary received feedback off Coley Porter Bell with the opportunity to develop his ideas, before presenting his work to the client and agency staff in London. He described his thought process:

“I have created a new flavour and label and shaped my ideas around helping promote the brand for Wimbledon. I’m now looking into applications that I can use to brand my idea and also how the Kopparberg limited edition could be sold and promoted outside of the Wimbledon grounds.”

Zachary went to London to present his developed ideas to a panel of judges made up of members of Coley Porter Bell and staff from the client, Kopperberg, where he received further valuable feedback on his concept.

UCLan encourages students to explore the industry, engage with companies and professionals and gain first-hand experience whilst they study through live competitions. Zachary commented on how much support and guidance he received during this process:

“Our tutors gave us lots of support during the time period we had to complete the brief; we had group and one to one tutorials which helped me with other creative inputs and ideas from the other students as well. This is what I like about our course as we all help each other and offer different ideas that can be used within our work.”

Hoping to continue work and network with professionals in the industry, Zachary is seeking a career in a top Graphic Design agency in London or Manchester once he graduates. He reflects on his time at UCLan so far and how much he has developed through his degree:

“I would 100% recommend UCLan for graphic design. I have learnt so much since I started studying here. You really start to learn in more depth about design and the way it works in industry. The tutors are all so helpful and supportive and work alongside you to help you become a more independent and successful designer.”
