UCLan was appealing to me after I studied my Foundation year with ONCAMPUS UCLan, therefore I was familiar with the city and decided to continue my studies at the University. In addition to this, Preston is considered an educational town where UCLan plays a central role in city life, with a lot of the population being students.
Initially it took a while to settle into the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science course, the induction week was good as it allows you to talk to other students and introduce yourself to them. The lecturers make their taught modules interesting and easy to understand.
Throughout my studies, I have personally gained the capacity to think independently, as well new skills in research and communication.
The course has prepared me for further studies and/or a career by introducing me to the key elements of biomedical science that I will need to know.
As an international student, English was the biggest barrier in my learning; however, I overcame this issue by reading more frequently and memorising the words that appear frequently in lecture slides and research papers.
In my third year, I participated in Biomedical Science Buddies program - this is a student association that offers educational services to students in first and second year in the Biomedical Science course. Being a Biomedical Science Buddy has also helped me develop my communication skills.
If prospective students are interested in investigating how the human body functions, how diseases develop and how human health is affected, this course will provide them with strong knowledge in this field.
