UCLan Advertising graduates, Teodora Nicolae and Malina Giurgea, have landed roles at London-based integrated creative agency, VCCP Blue.
After graduating in 2014, Teodora and Malina decided to make the move down to London in pursuit of becoming creative professionals and kick-started their careers at the D&AD New Blood Academy, a two-week boot camp for young creatives in the industry.
After this, they undertook placements in advertising agencies such as Iris Worldwide, Grey, M&C Saatchi and BMB and after living in London for a year, Teodora and Malina secured permanent jobs at integrated creative agency VCCP Blue.
In their current role, working together as a Junior Creative Team, Teodora and Malina come up with creative solutions for briefs that include advertising deliverables and strategies. Their greatest achievement so far was doing the 2016 Christmas campaign for Comparethemarket.com, in collaboration with Disney’s Frozen, which was the company’s biggest campaign to date.
Speaking about their reason for choosing to study advertising at UCLan, Teodora and Malina said: “We always wanted to do something creative and the course was the best balance between creative work and problem solving.
“The course taught us to think in a creative way and to approach a brief in a slightly different way. It’s very important to learn to think outside of the box and to do work that’s unexpected. It helped us understand how the industry works.”
When asked about any advice they would give to people wanting to study advertising, Teodora and Malina said: “You have to love what you’re doing and work hard. Very hard. Networking is very important. Get a LinkedIn profile, pester people, try to opportunities and run with them. Also, have fun!”
