Mohammed Salim Patel studied BA (Hons) International Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) where he has gone on to secure a dream role at the BBC.
Mohammed graduated with a first, giving him the motivation and belief that he could get a job. He describes the journey after UCLan as being slow, however, the opportunities that were presented on the course allowed him to work with and meet the right people. “I was given the opportunity to gain work experience and get into the BBC and meet the editors there. It was a case of tapping those editors up to explain that I was graduating and a couple of months after, the opportunity arose and I landed myself the job.”
In the future, Mohammed hopes to work as a newsreader or as a disability correspondent. As he is registered blind, he thanks the tutors on the course who gave him the confidence and belief that he could do something that he loves. He recommends that everyone should take advantage of the lecturers and facilities whilst at university.
“Make the most of your time at UCLan, especially your lecturers, they are experienced and can put you in contact with people you need to know. Enjoy your time, UCLan and Preston is a great place to be, you will meet loads of new people.”
