Mavish Tariq graduated from UCLan in 2016 with a first-class honours degree in International Tourism Management. She has worked in a variety of roles within the industry, namely hotels including big names such as Hilton and Marriott. She has kindly shared her thoughts on her time at UCLan and since graduating!
“My time studying International Tourism Management at the University of Central Lancashire has shaped the person I am today.
"Not only did it allow me to gain knowledge in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, it also gave me countless memorable life experiences. I cannot fault the course at all, as I thoroughly enjoyed my time whilst studying. I am entirely grateful for the work experience I achieved whilst on my placement year at Denver Marriott south, USA that UCLan helped me to secure."
"My placement year abroad at Marriott was an incredible experience, not only did I gain the essential knowledge and skills needed to work in the hospitality industry; it also facilitated my growth as a person. I learnt so much about myself in regards to what I actually want from my career and it gave me the confidence to pursue my career more towards business development role in hotels. I believe it is highly imperative that all courses are given the option to have a placement year within their course. As not only will you have higher education you will also acquire the crucial experience needed to obtain employment straight after graduating.
My overall studies and work experience gained from the course supported me in gaining the opportunity to work for 4 star properties. I currently hold a GCE Sales Executive role at Hilton Manchester Deansgate; I believe my placement year experience played a massive part in helping me secure this position.
I have now worked for two main hotel brands and am now moving onto my third, Holiday Inn that is part of IHG, which is InterContinental Hotels Group plc. It is a British multinational hotels company and I am very excited to be joining another internationally growing hotel company.”
