Louise’s dream of becoming a nurse is finally being realised after completing her UCLan Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Rehabilitation Pathway) at St Mary’s College, in Blackburn. After 20 years in retail, Louise has proved that it is possible to take a life changing leap into education and to combine that with the demands of managing a family and working full-time as a Health Care Assistant at her local hospital. Louise’s total commitment to studying has given her excellent academic results and has boosted her confidence to study at a higher level. She will now progress into her chosen field of adult nursing by undertaking a place on the adult nursing degree at UCLan Preston in September 2016.
UCLan's Partnership with St Mary's College offered the perfect opportunity for Louise to stay close to home, but with access to the facilities of a large university. The small class sizes and the support from staff and fellow students was a major benefit too. She said: “As a mature student I was really apprehensive when I started the course. The fantastic experiences I have had will stay with me forever. I cannot thank the staff enough for all the support and encouragement. The return to education preparation course was also excellent and really helped me to get into gear for learning. I really didn't know if I was bright enough, but I am so proud of what I have been able to achieve.”
Louise is now really looking forward to September when she starts her adult nursing degree at UCLan Preston.
