Lee Moran went down the part time route at UCLan, studying BEng (Hons) Building Services, before continuing to complete his MSc in 2008. His commitment to studying has paid off as he now finds himself at energy solutions firm ‘Vital Energi’ - working as an Associate Design Director.
Lee’s job revolves around working on some of the UK’s major contracts on projects such as Battersea Power Station, universities, the healthcare sector and trying to bring low-carbon solutions and lowering energy bills to these institutions.
“There's something different every day, with each day bringing new challenges,” Lee said.
“I’ve been in the industry for twenty years now with probably the same if not more to come, but the thought of another twenty years in the industry still excites because of the new technologies that are emerging all the time.”
The highlight of Lee’ career so far is becoming a Chartered Engineer, something that all aspiring engineer dream of becoming at some point and credits his time at UCLan for helping him reach the milestone.
“The time at UCLan was invaluable, qualifications are a necessity for any engineer and on top of that, the foundation that we all got at UCLan was great,” Lee said.
Lee’s advice for current and prospective students is to not let their degree to be the end of their story and to never stop asking questions.
