Katie has thrown herself into her studies since starting at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in 2016. She enrolled onto the Business and Marketing course in the Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise, Katie has kindly shared a few words with us about her journey to UCLan as she progresses into her third year of study.
"Dreams do come true...
I left high school with no hope for the future, and unsure of what career path to choose. I decided to enrol on a Level 2 qualification studying Health and Social Care.
After a year, I decided this career was not for me and realised I had a growing passion for the business industry after spending the summer with my grandparents who ran their own photography business in Blackburn, Lancashire.
After completing a Foundation eEntry course related to Business at another institution, I decided I needed a change and a university which could provide me with an experience of a lifetime.
In September 2016, I enrolled onto the BA (Hons) Business and Marketing programme based at the University of Central Lancashire - Preston Campus. I was nervous, excited and frightened to take a risk of moving away, becoming independent and starting a journey I would never have dreamed of years ago.
I won't sugar coat university because it is not easy, it is hard and will stretch your brain to full capacity. However, the benefits are the chance to make friends for life, receiving a degree to aid you into your dream job and gaining relevant experience. The best part of studying at The University of Central Lancashire is the staff, and student network. You truly feel like you are part of a very big community in Preston.
The best piece of advice I can give to current and future students at the university is to never doubt your abilities and always persevere in everything you do."
