UCLan’s School of Dentistry recently travelled to Malaysia to celebrate the MSc Dental Implantology course that the university has been running in Malaysia, and also discuss plans for the new MSc in Clinical Implantology set to run from May 2018*. The programme gives local students the chance to work in world class facilities and develop their clinical skills.
A highlight of the visit came when the delegation organised a dinner at the JW Marriott Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to meet with the Malaysian cohort of MSc students.
There was also an opportunity to present the 'Ng Fooi Chin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dental Implantology' to students Dr SY Sett, Dr PN Bong and Dr HO Leong (pictured below). Both the Head of School Angela Magee and Clinical Supervisor Professor Ong Siew Tin praised the students for their hard work and commitment.
This visit coincided with a Seminar on Special Care Dentistry (16th Feb. 2017), a dental CPD event held at the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UKM) where Dr Angela Magee had been invited to give the keynote address. Dr Magee lectured on 'Special Care Dentistry for Bariatric Patients and Patients with Dementia, with Professor Ong presenting a lecture on 'Managing Medical Emergencies During Sedation in Dental Practice'.
This popular event was well attended by Dental Officers from the Ministry of Health, postgraduate students and academics from a number of Malaysian universities, and included poster presentations.
This busy working trip to Kuala Lumpur provided a terrific opportunity for networking and strengthening the international linkage between the UCLan-Preston team and our Malaysian counterparts.
