I graduated from UCLan in 2014 with a First Class Honours Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and straight away secured employment in policing, which was the icing on the cake
The Criminology and Criminal Justice degree was more enriching, interesting and rewarding than I ever thought it would be. This degree allowed me to pursue my interests to the full, and broadening my naïve and possibly narrow view of the world was a fascinating experience.
The wide range of topics I studied allowed me to connect with debates, ideas and challenges I never thought I would be capable of ever confidently discussing with people.
The Criminology and Criminal Justice programme, allowed me to tailor my degree to exactly what I wanted to get out of it and equip me for future. It became a three year long career advice session-providing me with opportunities to study or engage with a range of disciplines, criminal justice and governmental agencies, charitable organisations, international organisations and professionals. Those encounters gave me a taster of the different employment/voluntary opportunities that can be pursued
The knowledge I gained at UCLan, whether that was on drugs and crime, violence against women, youth crime, human trafficking and other contemporary subjects, have all helped me perform my policing role more informatively and professionally.
My advice to anyone interested in studying Criminology is to GRAB THE OPPORTUNITY WITH BOTH HANDS, WORK HARD AND ENJOY, its one heck of a journey, good luck!
