FlashBang Science Game Development

Course: BA(Hons) Games Design

UCLan Games Design graduates Harry Prestidge and Dan Startin celebrated the launch of their first 'FlashBang Science' game on the iPad which is designed to bring fun into learning about science.
The project caught the attention of the Lancashire Evening Post who ran two features about the students’ success.

The idea of FlashBang games is to maintain children’s interest in science following on from FlashBang Science workshops that are being run in schools.

Claire Holt, Company Director, approached Games Design Course Leader, Bev Bush at UCLan who then mentored Dan and Harry, to work with programmer Stephen Higgins to produce a series of science based games. Harry and Dan are planning to develop more games in collaboration with Claire Holt and programmer Stephen Higgins of FlashBang Science.

The Games Design pair were originally paid to produce this work through the UCLan Unite (a UCLan work experience initiative). However, due to the popularity of their first game, further funding was made available through the UCLan Innovation voucher scheme for them to continue with more design work for the company.

Harry and Dan have now graduated and continue to develop games with FlashBang Science with UCLan’s support.
