The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), strives to ensure that all employees feel they are valued and important members of the wider UCLan community. Our employees play a crucial role in allowing the University to fulfil its goals, and we aim to provide a satisfying working environment - in which people are happy and motivated.
The UCLan Values
The UCLan Values define a framework for the decisions, action and behaviour and they are a promise to people about how they will be treated. These are currently being embedded into the recruitment of new staff, appraisals, promotion and reward, and have been defined as:
Whilst working at UCLan, you will enjoy a number of excellent terms and conditions and associated benefits and more importantly, the support to ensure you progress and develop in your role. A selection of these are:
UCLan offers a highly competitive salary and grading system covering across all roles.
UCLan offers a final salary pension, either the Local Government Pension Scheme or the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
UCLan provides generous annual leave of 30 days for support staff, or 35 days for academic staff. We also offer eight statutory holidays and four discretionary days a year.
UCLan delivers many learning and development opportunities and encourages staff progression. We recognise that our staff are crucial to the success of the University. Employees will have an annual appraisal. We hope the appraisal helps staff reach their potential and it is also a chance to discuss future ambitions, personal development and identify training opportunities.
In certain circumstances, relocation packages will apply to help new UCLan staff move to the area.
UCLan operates a childcare voucher salary sacrifice scheme.
At UCLan, we value the importance of maintaining a good work/life balance and recognise that we, as employers, must support our staff. UCLan employees have access to a number of support services:
UCLan provides a staff counselling service which offers confidential support to all staff.
The University has an Occupational Health Service, providing advice and guidance to promote and maintain the highest degree of physical and mental well-being of employees in all areas.
UCLan has a Healthy University (HU) initiative and leads on national and international work in this field. HU thinking is about bringing together the expertise and skills across our University and with external partners to work in a joined up way, making the most of our resources, creativity and skills.
Staff can have access to UCLan’s high quality, professional and Ofsted regulated pre-school and nursery, to help with childcare (subject to availability). The purpose-built nursery is located on campus and offers a safe, secure and caring environment for children from six months to 4 years.
All UCLan employees have access to the University’s outstanding sport facilities. As an Olympic training centre for London 2012, UCLan Sports Arena provides excellent facilities for a range of sports.
Staff also have the opportunity to join the recently opened Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre with competitive membership packages. Situated on campus, the £15 million development is easily accessible and includes a state-of-the-art gym, studios and two sports halls.
