    Westlakes Science and Technology Park

Located on the Westlakes Science and Technology Park in West Cumbria, the UCLan Westlakes campus is focused on innovative thinking for the real world. Using state-of-the-art facilities we offer innovative and vocational courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level that meet the needs of the local community whilst maintaining national and international appeal. A combination of academic learning and practical experience ensure UCLan Westlakes graduates are well prepared for the working world.

UCLan is keen to provide practical solutions for businesses as part of our commitment to employability and entrepreneurship.  And, with a keen focus on the nuclear energy sector, UCLan Westlakes is instrumental in improving the economic, social and cultural standing of the West Cumbria area - Britain’s Energy Coast.

The key features of our UCLan Westlakes campus are:

A global university in a local setting

The UCLan Westlakes campus ensures West Cumbria is part of an international network of knowledge, skills, expertise and commerce. The international activities of UCLan have brought together individuals, institutions and ideas from around the world into Britain’s Energy Coast. These global links are reflected in the courses we teach, the research we undertake, and links into local industry, policy and the wider community.

Developing a research community in West Cumbria

UCLan Westlakes currently carries out research in West Cumbria in energy, globalisation, tourism and applied policy science. Using studentships and original and applied research we intend to develop a broader research community in conjunction with local business. UCLan has research partnerships with the National Nuclear Laboratory and the new Dalton Cumbria Facility in West Cumbria.

Locally delivered flexible education

All courses at UCLan Westlakes consider employability and employer student needs. We use tools such as remote access and e-learning tools to improve the student experience.

Links with local employers ensure courses offered are relevant to Cumbrian needs

UCLan has links with important local employers particularly in nuclear, energy, health, business and tourism. We work hard to maintain these links as part of our on-going programme of employer engagement. UCLan Westlakes work with employers to develop courses that are relevant to their industries and to the needs of local people. But, as a globalised university, we still offer accreditation, national and international links.

Focal point for innovation and business development

Through the activities of the business incubation and support facility UCLan Westlakes is a focal point for innovation and business development. To support his facility we also utilise industry exhibitions, conferences, regular lectures and insight meetings. UCLan works with organisations like ‘Ways into Successful Enterprise’ to hold events and activities promoting enterprise.

A resource for the wider community and businesses

UCLan Westlakes continues to have a positive impact in West Cumbria. The local community benefit from the campus which creates employment and enhances the employability of residents. We carry out research into the social and scientific issues affecting the local community and host community forums. We provide conference, exhibition, and meeting facilities to ensure UCLan Westlakes campus is an asset to the local community, businesses, policy community and social enterprises.
