UCLan acquired the Tŷ’n Dŵr estate in summer 2007. Set in over seven acres of private grounds in the beautiful Llangollen area, the site facilities include the magnificent Tŷ’n Dŵr Hall, a listed Victorian house and the Victorian Coach House. Following a recent £2 million upgrade of the main hall and site we now also offer a Yurt camp facility. We specialise in adventure sports, outdoor education and pursuits.
With easy access from the motorway network and main services, Tŷ’n Dŵr Outdoor Centre incorporates onsite facilities including a full high ropes course, climbing wall, bmx track, archery and social activities. The surrounding countryside is ideal for a huge range of adventure activities including climbing, fell-walking, kayaking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.
Thanks to its idyllic setting, Tŷ’n Dŵr offers a peaceful retreat with individual style, oozing history from every corner of its ancient Welsh ambiance. Wood panelling, leading glass windows and magnificent fireplaces can be seen throughout, offering you the relaxation and pleasure from the moment you arrive.
Whether you enjoy a welcoming greeting in our comfortable reception area, a drink in our contemporary bar or a delicious meal in our stylish dining room, you can be assured that the Tŷ’n Dŵr staff will be on hand to welcome you in every way.
We have a maximum residential occupancy of 97 beds and can provide groups with the following activities:
UCLan has become recognised as one of the industry leaders in delivering outdoor programmes.
Most of our programmes offer students the advantage of being based in the city of Preston, with monthly week-long residential practical programmes at UCLan’s Tŷ’n Dŵr campus. All of our outdoor courses are run under the umbrella of UCLanSport, which allows sport and outdoor courses from across the university to be drawn together in the relevant areas of expertise.
