A warm welcome to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Whether you’re a returning student or new to the university, it’s never too early to start planning for your arrival. The information on the next few pages will introduce you to the university and help you start planning for your arrival at our Preston Campus.
Now is a good time to familiarise yourself with the potential ways to find your studies and pay your tuition fees. The UK Government has confirmed that for the first time postgraduate loans of up to 10,000 will be available to qualifying Home and EU students for full Masters Courses. Apply online as soon as possible or contact our Student Finance Support Team on 01772 892583 for further advice and guidance.
We also recommend applying for a student bank account before you arrive so that your maintenance loan can be paid directly into your account. Ensure you shop around for the best deal and take advantage of incentives such as free gifts and interest free overdrafts. If you require a letter confirming your study with us, please use our online request service.
If you are already holding an accommodation offer from UCLan, you will have received details of where and when to collect your keys. You can also access this information via the Accommodation Portal.
If you’ve not already applied, you should check the latest room availability for university owned or leased accommodation or talk to our team who can help you arrange private accommodation if you would prefer.
If you’re living off campus and commuting to and from Preston, our sustainable and active travel information will provide you with details and discounts for your journey.
You should have received an email from us which will allow you to validate your personal email address if that is the one you’ve provided. If you have not received this email, and it’s not lurking in your junk mail, please email email@example.com. Once you’ve validated your email you will receive other important information from us over the following weeks, including your username and password so you can access the university network - so keep checking your inbox!
Enrolment is the formal process which will confirm your status as a student at the University of Central Lancashire. Once you have received your username and password you should use these to enrol on your course as soon as possible, so as not to delay any student finance or access to other university services. The online registration process should take no longer than 10 minutes and is a simple confirmation of your details.
Your UCLan card is your University identification and will provide you with access to the university network and a variety of services. You will also need your card to register your attendance at lectures and classes.
Order your UCLan card by uploading a photo using our online photograph service. Have your student ID number to hand. Your UCLan Card will be posted out to your home address or if less than 2-3 weeks prior to Welcome Week, is will be ready for collection from the library when you arrive.
Some courses have essential information that you should read before you arrive at the university. Depending on what you are studying, you may need to find out about reading lists, specialist equipment or project work that you should complete prior to your arrival. Search for your course using our A-Z list.
When you arrive on campus, you will need to provide a valid proof of ID, such as a passport, driving license or birth certificate. This can be verified at the Need to Know information fair, or shown at The <i> Student Information Centre in the Library, or at any CAS Hub.
During your first few weeks we will be running a Welcome Week programme to help all students settle into life at the University of Central Lancashire. Login to the Student Portal using your username and password to check your course timetable, access UCLan’ virtual learning environment and find out more about the range of events to help you meet other postgraduate students.
Great news - if you’ve already completed the above steps then you’re almost ready to start #TheUCLanExperience.
