Practice Education Facilitators

Students completing placements in NHS Trusts or associated healthcare settings are supported by Practice Education Facilitators who work Multi-Professionally to enhance quality and support learning in practice. Health Education England supports the role of these staff in investing in the future health workforce. PEF’s are available to all students in health settings and the details of the PEF associated with a placement area can be found on our placement information pages.

The Key Responsibilities of PEFs are; 

  • To provide support to the existing structure within clinical area
  • Promote a pro-active, quality learning environment
  • Develop and support evidence based practice
  • To support students on clinical placement
  • Keep a database of mentors and updates

The objectives of PEFs are;

  • To enhance the pre-registration student's experience
  • To improve their clinical competence
  • To improve communication channels
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of the role

  • Ensure learning outcomes are being met

  • Providing post registration advice for students on regulated health programmes
