As a pilot we have decided to extend the Distance Learning Service to part-time students living outside of the PR1, PR2 and PR5 postcodes.
You are also entitled to use this service if you're studying at any of the following:
Dental Education Centres - please complete the request forms available from the Dentistry Services pages
Non FEC Partner Institutions
On placement with an NHS Trust
As part of the Distance Learning Service you are also entitled to the additional services detailed further below.
You have access to the same services as on-campus students including:
Access to Electronic Resources, including e-journals and e-books
Search by Subject guides to help access journals and books, etc. online
Inter-Library Loans Service (charges apply)
Help getting you started from the Information Skills training programme
Access to IT help and advice from LIS Customer Support
However, some services are restricted to students living in the UK and Ireland - for example, postal book loans and some electronic resources (because of licensing restrictions).
Please Note: You are responsible for the payment and safe return of any items borrowed.
You are, of course, very welcome to visit the library in person, but if you can’t many of our services are available using email or the telephone. Further details of our services are available from these web pages.
To enquire about a book or journal request, or if you would like to offer any feedback please contact the Distance Learning /Document Supply Team Tel: 01772 892293, Fax: 01772 892991.
Access to E-resources - from the database pages follow the off-campus links - it is not necessary to use the Remote Access service (see below) for the majority of these resources.
If you can't find the information you need about e-resources, or any other services provided by Learning & Information Services, please contact LIS Customer Support.
‘Please note the extended loan period is only valid when ordering items via the online Distance Learning Service. Items borrowed using the self-issue machines will be subject to standard loan periods.’
Normal Loan items - 5 weeks (Renewals 4 weeks)
Short Loan items - 2 weeks (Renewals 1 week)
The initial extended loan periods are to allow for postage times for both receipt and return of the items.
Fines: will be incurred if the item is returned late for each day between the due date and date of postage.
Renewals: a maximum of 4 renewals are allowed, however if an item has been reserved by another borrower it must be returned by the due date.
