Borrowing Books

Library Search can be used to search for books, journals, DVDs and other materials, held or subscribed to by the library.

You can also use Library Search to place a reservation or check your Library Account for details of your loans.


 

Loan Categories

There are two categories of books on the Library shelves:

Standard Loan -  These can be borrowed for 2 weeks at a time.

Reference - REF label on the spine of the book. These can be used in the library but not taken out.

Loan Allowances

  • Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Staff can all borrow up to 18 items at one time.          

How To Issue Library Items

Preston Campus - you can issue Library items at any of the self issue machines. They are available on the ground, first and second floors. Follow the instructions on the screen and don't forget to take your receipt as this gives you the due date for the items that are on your account. You should always retain your receipt and you can also check details of loans by accessing My Library Account online.

Burnley HE Campus - you can issue Library items using the issue machines in the building. Follow the instructions on the screen and don't forget to take your receipt as this gives you the due date for the items that are on your account. You should always retain your receipt and you can also check details of loans by accessing My Library Account online.

How To Return Library Items

Preston Campus - you need to return or renew items before they become overdue to avoid fines. You will find the returns machine on the ground floor. Follow the instructions on the screen and don't forget to take your receipt as proof of return.

Burnley HE Campus - you can use the returns machines in the Burnley Campus Library. Follow the instructions on the screen and don't forget to take your receipt as proof of return.
