The Shepherd Street Mission

A small collection of items from the Mission established in Preston by the Band of Hope in 1876. The mission rescued street children and provided temporary accommodation for homeless adults; one of its original objectives was to "assist children to emigrate".

The collection comprises mostly committee minutes and newspaper reports on the Mission's work, but also includes rules for the running of homes, notes of children sent to Canada and images of rescued urchins.

Search the Library Catalogue to obtain a list of the material held in the collection. Select keyword search and type 'Shepherd Street Mission'.
