Request a Book

Find out how to reserve an item held at a UCLan library if it is out on loan, or you can't find it on the shelves.

If you need to request an item held within the Special Collections complete the enquiry form and email the form to facultylibrarians@uclan.ac.uk

 

 

Placing a Request

When all copies are out on loan

Place a reservation yourself via the Library Search as follows:

  • Search for the title.
  • Click 'Sign In' (On campus, not prompted for UCLan credentials, Off Campus enter UCLan username and password).
  • Click 'Request'.
  • Select your preferred collection site and then click 'Request'.
  • Check that a message is displayed confirming your reservation.

Please note that only one request may be placed per title per person and that a maximum number of ten reservations may be placed at any one time per person. Reservations cannot be placed via Library Search if copies are available on the shelves for loan.

 

Items showing as 'available' that you can't find

If you cannot find the item on the shelves, but the Library Search shows it is not on loan

Please double check the shelves and the recent returns shelves on the relevant floor. If the items(s) still cannot be located, complete a Reservation Request form - available from Service Points. Remember to include your UCLan card number and write legibly with as much detail as possible.

Staff will place a reservation on your record as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours, provided:

  • You do not exceed your reservations limit of ten active reservations at any one time.
  • Your borrowing rights have not been suspended for any reason.
  • You do not already have an active reservation on this title.

 

Cancelling a Request

From Library search, Sign in and click on your name (top right) and select my library account;

  • Select Requests to display your current reservations.
  • Click on 'cancel' against the title you want to cancel. 
  • Check that a confirmation message is displayed. You will also receive an email confirming the cancellation.

Not Needed After...

Requests are placed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and will lapse after 42 days. If a shorter ‘not needed after’ date is entered, the reservation will lapse on the date entered. You will need to request the item again if your request has not been received before this date.

Requesting Items Located at Other Sites

 

Requesting items located at other sites:

Requests are only permitted on copies at another site if the library you registered at does not stock the title. If copies are available at your library, but are out on loan, requests will only be satisfied from copies as they become available at your library and cannot be obtained from another site.

Requests for items at another site can only be placed via Library Search if all the copies are out on loan. When the Library Search shows an item to be available at another site, a 'Reservation Request form' must be completed.

Please note - because items have to be transported between sites, these requests may take a little longer to process.

Items which are located at other UCLan libraries, i.e. Burnley HE, but which are for Reference Only, cannot be reserved under any circumstances.

Please provide a full description of what you would like to use, what you want to use it for and when you would like to access it, and we will contact you.
