Hi I’m Rev Sue Griffiths, Methodist Chaplain and minister at Central Methodist Church in Lune Street, Preston. If you’d like to find out more about what we do at Central  please see the website below, contact me at the MFC on Tues afternoons or visit our Olive Grove Coffee Shop Mon-Saturday mornings.

Here’s some general information about the Methodist Church that you might find helpful.

The Methodist Church started in the 18th Century as a revival movement, breaking away from the Anglican Church in 1784.  Since then it has become the 4th largest Christian denomination and has churches and members throughout the world.

The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God's love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.  It does this through:

WORSHIP – To increase awareness of God’s presence and to celebrate God’s love.

LEARNING & CARING – To help people to grow and learn as Christians, through mutual support and care

SERVICE – To be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice

EVANGELISM - To make more followers of Jesus Christ

Methodists belong to a local church but are also part of a Circuit of Methodist Churches, a District and the Connexion, which is the whole of the Methodist Church in Britain.  To find out more about Methodism, its history, its structure, its vision and mission, its response to issues in the world today go to www.methodist.org.uk

UCLAN is situated in the Lancashire District of the Methodist Church and within the Preston Ribble Circuit of Methodist Churches.  The District and Circuit have a adopted a Mission Policy called ‘Transforming Lives and Communities’ which provides the framework and guides the life and mission of the local churches that exist within the Circuit and District.  For more information see www.lancashiremethodist.org.uk.
