Shephard Ndlovu is a Senior Lecturer in Fire Safety Engineering in the School of Engineering. He teaches on a range of modules within the Fire and Safety Engineering degree programmes with responsibilities at main campus in Preston and our partner institution - International College of Engineering and Management, Sultanate of Oman.

Shephard is a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE), a Specialist Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (SIIRSM) and a Fellow of Higher Education Academy.

Full Profile

Shephard gained his BSc (Hons) from the University of Central Lancashire and MSc from Lancaster University. Prior to this he worked as a fire fighter and fire safety officer at the Bulawayo Fire Brigade, Zimbabwe. He began working at the University of Central Lancashire as a research assistant then progressed to the current post in 2004. Shephard is a member of the University Review Panel (URP), he has coordinated many regional and national conferences, workshops and CPD programmes.

Memberships

He is a member of Operation Florian - a UK based humanitarian charity. A non-political organisation assisting fire and rescue services throughout the world who have suffered as the result natural or man made disasters. Much of work concentrates on assisting and supporting communities to improve their fire fighting and rescue infrastructure and provide a progressive move towards normality and stability of their emergency services. Shephard has coordinated the donation of fire and rescue service equipment and the training of fires fighters from various cities and towns in Zimbabwe.

Teaching Activities and Responsibilities

Shephard has been course leader for a number of fire programmes over the years, currently he is the course leader for BSc (Hons) Fire Safety Engineering and BSc (Hons) Fire Safety Management at the main campus in Preston and our partner institution - International College of Engineering and Management, Sultanate of Oman. His teaching covers a wide range of areas including:

  • Safety and Fire Law;
  • Fire Safety Management and Legislation;
  • Fire Protection Engineering;
  • Engineering Dissertation;
  • Safety, Health and Environmental Management.
