Sharon has worked in Health Care since 1979, when she worked as a Registered General Nurse in Intensive Care (ICU) & surgical care before becoming a Registered Mental Nurse working primarily in Acute Services. She moved to Nurse Education in 1987 and has held teaching posts since then. Her specific interests are in Acute Mental Health Assessment & Care interventions, Dual Diagnosis, Stress management & psychopharmacology.

Teaching activities and responsibilities

Main Teaching Responsibilities & Interest

Specialist subject areas related to Mental Health are Mental Health Assessment, Risk Assessment & Management, Stress Management, Substance Misuse and developing Mental Health practice. She will also be running a specialist pharmacology module from Sept 2012.

Teaching delivery is broad, from pre-registration & post registration Nursing, to multidisciplinary work with Social Workers, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Prison Workers & Health Visitors. This incorporates evaluation and auditing of delivery of personal teaching and team teaching.
Educational role with clinicians in practice.
