Megan holds an MA in Media Studies from Rhodes University in South Africa, and a BGS from Simon Fraser University. She has worked extensively as a journalist and webmaster for news organisations ranging from alternative weeklies in Vancouver to the Daily Star, the Sunday Independent and the South African Broadcasting Corporation in Johannesburg.

Megan is research active within the area of journalism, media theory and practice and is a member of the Journalism research group.

The former director of the New Media Lab at Rhodes University, and of the Highway Africa Conference, she has research interests in new media technologies and especially their effects on the professional identity of journalists, as well as in alternative and radical media.
