Matt Horn has been the course leader of the franchise programme in Interntional Journalism at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies since the course began in 2005.
Matt is a sports journalist who has been living and working in Guangzhou, China for the past eight years after 13 years in the regional press across the UK.
Since 2005 he has been course leader on the BA (Hons) International Journalism programme in the franchise partnership with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Successful students who have passed through the system are already working in all areas of the media out here. The course also welcomes non-Chinese to join and UCLan students from the UK, Germany, Spain and Kazakhstan have studied under Matt in Guangzhou.
He has also worked for UCLan on their programmes in Shanghai at SIFT and USST.
In 2005 he was named "Friend of Guangdong" by the provincial Chinese Government for services to the development of the region. In 2009 he was one of only three ex-pats flown to Beijing to represent the province at the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the PRC.
He has been a journalist since studying newspaper journalism in Preston in 1990 and worked as a football reporter in regional papers across the UK including the Western Daily Press, Yorkshire Evening Post and Lancashire Evening Telegraph. As well teaching in China he works for Guangzhou TV and hosts the radio show My Guangdong on Radio Guangdong.
Matt is a consultant with GZTV for their reports that feature on CNN's World View. He also works with their English Channel.
He hosts "My Guangdong" on Radio Guangdong which can be listened to around the world on World Radio Network.
He writes for various publications out there, including national English language daily Global Times, "Nihao" and "That's PRD" magazines.
Matt has given journalism training courses for Platts, a web based old news service, in both Guangzhou and Beijing.
He also works as a volunteer for the charity Guangdong International Volunteer Ex-pat Services (GIVES) as MC and media consultant.
