Jill Newsham is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Art, Design and Performance at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) where she teaches and supports post graduate students who are studying for a Master of Arts degree in Antiques. Jill is an antiques dealer and collector who regularly travels to antiques fairs and events all over the country. She has a wide network of contacts throughout the world of antiques.

Jill has more than 20 years’ experience in the antiques industry both as an antiques dealer and antiques fair organiser. She has a broad knowledge of and passion for British Decorative Arts and her main specialism is in 19th and 20th century British glass and ceramics. She has been involved in curating several exhibitions including North West Art Pottery at the Atkinson in Southport, Jazzy Pots at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, A Touch of Luxury at Harrods of Knightsbridge and latterly The Wonderful World of Roland Emett at The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. She has given talks on various subjects at Wedgwood and the Birmingham Museum and her work on Art in Industry, The Harrods Exhibition 1934 is used as a reference document by both the Wedgwood Museum and Harrods. 

Following a B.A in Antiques and Design at UCLan in 2005, Jill developed her interest in the social history of dining and related antiques by becoming one of the first to complete a Master’s degree in Food Styling where she specialised in the Victorian dining table.

To keep her knowledge of the antiques industry current Jill attends fairs, seminars, workshops and events whenever possible. A recent highlight was a two day course at Buckingham Palace on Chinoiserie in the Royal Collection.

Jill’s background is in adult learning working for a major international retail company for several years as Learning and Development Manager. Her teaching experience covers the full spectrum of behavioural technical and skills development and. She is a qualified Training Manager and On-line Tutor with the Chartered Institute of Personal Development.
