Dr Jiayi Wang is Lecturer in Chinese Language, Cultural Studies and Interpreting and Translation Studies. Jiayi received her PhD in applied linguistics from the University of Warwick, with a focus on professional intercultural communication. Prior to her PhD, Jiayi was an international project manager and official interpreter/translator in a Chinese government ministry after receiving her MA in Interpreting and Translation from Beijing Foreign Studies University.

Dr Jiayi Wang is Lecturer in Chinese Language, Cultural Studies and Interpreting and Translation Studies. Jiayi received her PhD in applied linguistics from the University of Warwick, with a focus on professional (official/business) intercultural communication. Her main research interests are pragmatics, intercultural interaction, and the interface between intercultural communication and translation and interpreting studies. Prior to her PhD, she was an international project manager and official interpreter/translator in a Chinese government ministry and she also worked as an interpreter/translator for a wide range of organisations such as Deutsche Bank, Warwick Manufacturing Group and Fortune Magazine. She has published research articles on comparative law and professional translations, and previously edited a ministerial journal on international exchange.

Research

Jiayi’s current research interests are pragmatics, intercultural interaction and the interface between intercultural communication and translation and interpreting studies. She also supervises postgraduate students working in various areas of interpreting, translation and intercultural communication.

Teaching

Jiayi currently teaches translation and interpreting and Chinese language, as well as supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students working in various areas of interpreting, translation, Chinese studies and intercultural communication.
