Jane worked as a senior manager in the hotel and events industry for a number of years before beginning her teaching career. Jane is experienced in managing hotels for leading international brands including Intercontinental, Ramada Jarvis and Forte. This experience extended to managing a range of conference venues and also a country club with extensive leisure facilities.

Jane has a MBA from Lancaster University and BSc Hospitality Management from Manchester Polytechnic and a range of industry based qualifications.

She is also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an active member of the Council for Hospitality Management Education and the Association of Event Management Education.

Research Activities

Jane’s research interests focus on the development of the experience economy and themed environments primarily centred on Las Vegas. Further to this, the area of service quality and cross cultural management in international hotels remains a constant interest. Corporate hospitality is an area Jane is now investigating.

Teaching Activities

Jane is a senior lecturer and course leader for all undergraduate hospitality and events programmes in the School including: BA (Hons) Hospitality/International Hospitality Management, BA (Hons) Event Management, BA (Hons) Hospitality Management by part-time study, BA (Hons) Management in Hospitality and BA (Hons) Management in Events.

Currently Jane teaches a range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level relating to the hospitality and event sector. Areas taught include operations and planning to strategic management. The focus of the modules relates to the global nature of the hospitality and event sector which is reinforced by her role as a visiting placement tutor. Jane has visited students on placement in USA, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Greece, South Africa and throughout the UK.
