Donna completed a BSc in Forensic Phycology in 2003 then when to work in Secure Services at Guild Lodge following this and has worked here since this time. She qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 2010 and has over 14 years of experience working as a Mental Health Services. Donna continued her studies at UCLan completing CPD modules in Mentorship (2015) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (2017).
Donna is a Lecturer/Practitioner in the School of Nursing working in the Mental Health division. This is a part time role. Alongside this Donna works at Guild Lodge a secure inpatient service as a Team Leader. She has worked for Lancashire Care NHS Trust for 14 years. She started as a Health Care Support Worker and an Associate Practitioner prior to completing a diploma in Mental Health Nursing 7 years ago. She has worked across all services at Guild Lodge including the Women’s Service, Acquire Brain Injury (ABI) and Men’s service across all levels of security, Medium Secure to Step down. She currently works on a male step down ward with patient with Sever and Enduring Mental Illness. She works to a recovery based model of care and loves this role. She has acted as a care co-ordinator for patients and as a mentor for the many student nurses from UCLan that visit the ward.
Previous to working in Mental Health Donna completed a BSc in Forensic Psychology. Since qualifying as a nurse has completed additional CPD studies including Brief Solution Focused Therapy and Mentorship and is excited to be finding out more about teaching and lecturing at UCLan.
Donna’s main areas of professional interest are: Schizophrenia and Psychosis and clinical skills in nursing.
