Dharma took up the position as Dean of Lancashire Business School (LBS) in December 2008 becoming the youngest business school Dean in the UK. He has been keen to develop the School’s profile by strengthening links with professional bodies and businesses and by integrating current research findings into teaching practices as well as by widening international opportunities for students.
Dharma is research active within the area of business and management and is a member of the Institute for Innovation, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.
After several years of working for the Business School in various roles including Head of Undergraduate Programmes, Dharma was promoted to the position of Associate Director (International) where he gained substantial experience in building and managing international partnerships. During his academic career, he has designed taught and lead courses in management, retail management and a number of in-company programmes for public and private sector businesses.
Prior to commencing his career in the higher education sector, Dharma worked for Sainsbury’s in retail management.
Dharma’s research interests in workplace socialisation, graduate employability and HE management led him to be greatly involved in the establishment of Launchpad, the School’s ground-breaking programme honing students’ personal and professional skills and providing them with work opportunities.
Current Management Responsibilities:
Dharma is Chair for LBS Senior Leadership Team, LBS Strategic Management Team and LBS Research Forum. On top of that, Dharma currently is line manager for the academic members of staff in the Division of Business, International Business and Economics and the Division of Communication, Marketing and PR. Dharma is also an active member of UCLan’s Senior Management Team as well as the University’s Board.
Outside University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) he is an active committee member for the Young Institute of Directors (North West Region) encouraging the business community to build links with graduates. Dharma is also a board member for Preston Youth Zone, a private sector led charity which has raised funds to build a super youth club for the City of Preston.
