Christopher joined UCLan in January 2012 having taught in higher education since September 1999. His teaching focus is on financial management and management accounting, with an intention to update by incorporating research focus on social and environmental accounting into. He is also registered for a PhD (pt) at the University of Sheffield, which is scheduled to complete by March 2014. Christopher is also a panel member with the Lancashire and Cumbria region of the ACCA.
Before joining UCLan in January 2012 as a senior lecturer in accounting in Lancashire Business School, Christopher was a senior lecturer at Edge Hill University from September 1999. Prior to this he worked briefly as a management accountant and as an accountant within the social housing sector.
His main teaching interest is in management accounting, financial management and he has also taught introductory financial accounting and auditing.
In trying to develop the relevance of management accounting in particular to students, keen to explore this area from the perspective of social and environmental accounting – the focus of his research, and the basis of registering for a PhD (pt) with the University of Sheffield since March 2008 (due for completion March 2014). The working title for the PhD thesis is: Analysing the sustainability discourse within the accounting community inclusive of Small and Medium-Sized Practice (SMP) views. In carrying out this research project a number (20) of interviews with small and medium sized practices have been completed and the intention is to complete any follow up interviews early in 2013 and then write up the thesis.
Research interest has already resulted in a number of conference presentations and papers including: BAFA Conference 2011, Aston Business School; SAMS/JMS 2010 The Foundations of sustainability conference, Loughborough; CSEAR 2008, 2009 and 2010 all at the University of St Andrews.
Chris is also keen to engage with accounting practitioners and other bodies within the accounting community on new and emerging areas of interest and expertise within the accounting sphere.
