Full Profile

After completing a degree in Psychology at the University of Sunderland, Andrea chose to study Mental Health Nursing at the University of Southampton. She gained a Post-Graduate Diploma and went on to top this up to a Master’s Degree with Distinction. Andrea has mainly worked in acute inpatient settings as a Registered Mental Health Nurse since qualifying. Within this role she worked with a variety of service users including those with a dual diagnosis of substance misuse and/or a learning disability.

Andrea was also a specialist clozapine mental health nurse and was involved in the development of the home initiation service so that people could either commence or re-titrate on clozapine in the community. Creating this service meant that service users could remain at home rather than being admitted to hospital. As part of this role she was involved in the development of the standard operational procedures for the service and also for clozapine clinics within the trust.

Andrea was a mentor and sign of mentor in practice. She also supervised paramedic and adult nursing students who were completing spoke placements within the mental health unit.
