Introduction to Courses
Welcome to Waste Management at UCLan
Waste management is an important and fast moving industry, vital to any nation's health, environment and economic wellbeing. This programme of courses was developed in close consultation with professional bodies within the waste industry, and seeks to meet their current and future needs. The programme is flexible so full-time students have a relatively rapid expansion of their knowledge base, while the part time route lets those students employed within waste related industries augment practical knowledge with academic study. Students with appropriate qualifications who currently work outside the waste industry are also welcome to the programme.
The MSc / PgD, PgCert and University certificate courses give a range of opportunities for you to develop your own interests within a structured and integrated programme. All enable you to acquire management skills underpinned by a sound technical knowledge and enhance career prospects. The MSc / PgD Sustainable Waste Management Programme aims to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to work professionally in this field. This is achieved through development of subject knowledge and transferable skills. The course will expose you to a wide range of perspectives, opinions and issues. You will address the question of what waste is, how it may be reduced or turned back into something of value, what is necessary to safely dispose, store, transport or extract energy or materials from waste, how legislation and other forms of intervention affect waste management, and how new technologies may, or perhaps may not, provide a solution to some of the problems associated with waste management and disposal.
