About the School of Social Work
After a 40 year history of involvement in social work training, and recent major restructuring within the University of Central Lancashire, the School of Social Work was established in 2008. This has provided an opportunity to build on the growth of the past two decades in a context of rapid social change. Reflecting demands for better qualified workers within the social care sector we are committed to raising the standards of practice through high quality education programmes. Our partnerships with Skills for Care and the Childrens’ Workforce Development Council are important in the work of the School in both research and teaching.
Supported by the Faculty Placement Learning Unit, we are able to negotiate and develop a range of learning opportunities relevant to programmes of study. In addition the School of Social Work values the participation of service users and carers groups in most aspects of its work.
Located in the Harrington Building, close to parking and library facilities, the School of Social Work has the advantage of a well equipped learning environment with open access computer rooms and cafeteria on the ground floor.
