The School of Management has an excellent reputation for learning and teaching. That’s why our undergraduate management courses have been voted number one in the UK in the 2015 National Student Survey (NSS). Our aim is to nurture and develop global managers of the future via leading-edge management programmes, shaped by the latest research, professional practice, innovative business insight and international opportunities.
We are proud of our graduates, many of whom have gone on to work in the UK and abroad for companies such as Royal Mail, Waitrose, Red Bull, Merlin Entertainments and Disney.
Our LaunchPad leadership development programme is unique to the School of Business and the School of Management and provides students with opportunities to achieve their professional goals, whether they want to gain entry to the top 100 companies in the UK, embark on an international career, or set up a business.
LaunchPad students learn about the challenges of the current job market as well as helping them to develop their skills through a mixture of workshops, events and company visits.
We are renowned for developing graduates who are highly employable and have strong entrepreneurial skills. All of our degree courses offer a 48-week work placement opportunity where students can work in a real business and gain vital work experience. There are also opportunities for work experience through short internships, placements and volunteering. Many of our students have been offered permanent employment or an internship following a work experience opportunity.
Our students have a range of international opportunities and we actively encourage them to apply for the University’s Travel Bursary Scheme, which provides financial support to students wishing to engage in international travel during their course of study. There may also be an opportunity to work abroad or take part in a study trip. Recently, our tourism management students visited Auschwitz on a study visit.
Our division of Tourism, Hospitality and Events, within the School of Management, offer specialist courses for people who wish to, or are working in, management positions in the tourism, hospitality and events industries. We have strong links with leading companies such as Disney Florida, Marriott Hotels, Events Northern Ltd and Merlin Leisure. The Division hosts the Institute of Transport and Tourism and The Dark Tourism Forum.
