The Summer English Language Programme is for students wanting short active courses: minimum 1 week and maximum 9 weeks which will improve their English and cultural awareness.

Teacher Development Courses are for teachers of English to speakers of other languages who want to work on different aspects of their professional development. Different countries have different requirements. You may need a visa to come to the UK to visit, study or work. Find out more about visas.

We strongly recommend that you arrange adequate insurance for your stay in the UK. We suggest your insurance includes: travel insurance, belongings insurance and personal insurance to cover unexpected events such as the need to travel back to your home country in an emergency. You may wish to arrange appropriate insurance before you leave home; alternatively, you may wish to make insurance arrangements once you are in the UK (although if you choose this option, please ensure you have enough travel insurance for your journey to the UK).

Manchester Airport is the closest international airport to UCLan and it is very easy to travel from here to Preston by train.

By train: There is a direct service from Manchester Airport to Preston. This service runs daily except for 25 and 26 December. The train station is based in the airport and it will only take you a few minutes to walk to the station once you have collected your luggage. Preston is on the train line from Manchester Airport to Blackpool.

By coach: There are over 40 coach services travelling from Manchester Airport to Preston every day. The coach station at the airport is outside Arrivals at Terminal 3. The coach journey takes 2 hours and 20 minutes and when you arrive at Preston bus station you can take a taxi to the University.

We recommend taking a taxi if you are arriving with luggage. You can get a taxi (black cab) just outside the main entrance of Preston train station. Give the taxi driver your accommodation address and he or she will take you straight there. The journey will cost approximately £5 if you are staying in accommodation close to campus. It is best to pay in cash and it’s normal to give a taxi driver a 10% tip (in cash).
