The School of Health Sciences has a mission to provide a rich, stimulating and supportive environment for students and staff to develop their full potential and to stimulate health and wellbeing within communities through dynamic, high-quality education, research and knowledge transfer.
We have service level agreements with a range of service provider organisations across the North West of England. The School works collaboratively with local FE colleges, statutory and independent healthcare providers, voluntary sector and charitable organisations.
We are a large provider of multi-professional healthcare education, training and development, offering a range of taught undergraduate and postgraduate modular-based courses, research degrees and credit recognition. The School develops its portfolio collaboratively with partners in response to national policy and local requirements and needs, providing professional courses, short courses and continuing professional development. The focus is on students developing evidence-based knowledge, skills and person-centred values in preparation for employment.
The School of Health Sciences offers courses in: Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, Paramedic Practice, Operating Department Practice, Health Informatics, and Acute and Emergency Care.

We provide a range of knowledge transfer activities in response to the needs of our partner health and social care organisations through bespoke training, workshops, consultancy, service evaluations, funded projects, contract research and international conferences.
The School has also had seven nationally-funded knowledge transfer partnerships (KTPs), three of which are complete and four which are progressing well. These KTPs have involved collaborative work with Primary Care and Community NHS Trusts, voluntary sector and charitable organisations and commercial companies over a five-year period.
The School has been successful in being awarded two North West Development Agency innovation vouchers to work with commercial companies. The successful achievement of the KTPs culminated in being shortlisted for the Times Higher Leadership and Management Awards in 2010.
