Welcome to the John Tyndall Institute for Nuclear Research

The John Tyndall Institute for Nuclear Research, launched in Summer 2007, is located on Preston Campus and also the West Cumbria Campus located on the Westlakes Science and Technology Park, 15 minutes north of Sellafield.  The Institute was initially part of the internationally recognised Centre for Materials Science.  It acts to develop work in the areas of nuclear, science, technology and engineering. Colleagues regularly advise national and international bodies including the International Atomic Energy Authority.

The Institute also works closely with other Centres including ADSIP and the Centre for Fire & Explosion.  JTI leads the EPSRC UK Semiconductor Photochemistry Network Task Group on semiconductor photochemistry and the nuclear energy industry.

The vision for the Institute is that it will become an “internationally recognised institute for nuclear science, technology and engineering research, knowledge transfer and education”.
