Earthworms play a significant role in soil formation and provision of important ecosystem services. Research concerning the biology and ecology of earthworms is an active and continuously expanding area of science. The Earthworm Research Group (ERG) investigates numerous research trajectories.

The ERG has worked extensively with earthworm species from Britain.
Consultancy
Members of the ERG are encouraged by the University of Central Lancashire to act as consultants where appropriate.
